Todavía en 1989 parecía casi imposible lograr el desarrollo de una Historiografía del cine español debido al gran impedimento representado por la práctica crítica que se había convertido en un "mal objeto" de estudio. Sin embargo, la situación cambió con las nuevas investigaciones históricas, seguidas por las aproximaciones semiológicas llevadas a cabo por los estudiosos reunidos en torno a la revista Contracampo. La presencia de los estudios sobre cine en los departamentos universitarios creó, después de un breve periodo de cimentación, un mapa topográfico del cine español que derrocó las anteriores predeterminaciones y ambigüedades y volvió a los textos en sí mismos. Este grupo de investigaciones ha trabajado en la reconsideración de los films con la intención de encontrar las huellas de los tiempos en los que cada uno de ellos emergieron.

Even in 1989, it seemed almost imposible to achieve the development of a Historiography of the Spanish Cinema, owing to the great hindrance represented by the critical practice that had turned into a "bad object" of investigation. However, the situation changed with the new historical researches, followed by the semiologic approach that gathered in the magazine Contracampo. The presence of Cinema Studies in the University Departments, after a brief period of foundation, has created a topographic map of the Spanish Cinema that overthrow the precedent a priori statements and ambiguities and returned to the texts themselves. This group of investigations have worked on the reconsideration of films with the aim to find the traces of the times they emerged on.
