Homogenisation of periodic discrete medium: Application to dynamics of framed structures

    • In this article the transverse and longitudinal vibrations of periodic multi-frame structures are modelled by means of the homogenisation method of discrete media. The objective is to determine the several possible models according to the mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the elements constituting the period. The study reveals various types of behaviour—shear beams, Timoshenko beams, flexion beams—and provides the macroscopic structural parameters. The limits of validity of the modelling are examined. Applications concern the identification of the dynamic behaviour of existing buildings.
