Resumen de El purgatorio en la plástica neogranadina

  En la sesión XXV del 3 y 4 de diciembre de 1563 el concilio ecuménico celebrado en la ciudad italiana de Trento, aprobó a través del decreto �Sobre La Invocación, veneración y reliquias de los santos y de las sagradas escrituras,� la incorporación del arte con un renovado sentido, en la batalla contra el mal. Este medio profundamente humano se hizo realidad en el Nuevo Reino de Granada.

  A través de las imágenes se catequizó y evangelizó a todo un continente. Por medio de lo visual se enseñaron las Sagradas Escrituras y la vida gloriosa de los Santos. Entre estos temas iconográficos los Purgatorios y los asuntos de Ánimas se convirtieron en un mensaje esperanzador para alcanzar la bienaventuranza.

  Este artículo da cuenta de la historia y sentido de éstos dos asuntos en la Nueva Granada.

  In the XXV meeting of December 3rd and 4th of 1563, the Ecumenical Council held in the Italian city of Trento, approved by Decree "On The Invocation, veneration, and relics of saints and the holy scriptures," the incorporation of art with a renewed sense in the battle against evil. This medium was profoundly human reality in the New Kingdom of Granada.

  Through images a whole continent was catechized and evangelized. Through the visual were taught the Scriptures and the glorious life of the Saints.

  Among these iconographic themes of the Purgatory and issues of the Anima became a message of hope to attain bliss. This article gives an account of the history and meaning of these two issues in the Nueva Granada.
