  • Resumen
    • The last chapter of the Peelo project was an excavation of Huisinge, the third and last farmstead in the medieval hamlet. Thanks to a field survey by V.T. van Vilsteren, a colleague at the Assen museum, it was possibIe to investigate this part of the settlement before it was destroyed by the track of a new road. Two ditches were already recently dug through two corners of the yard. The development of Huisinge can be split into four periods. It starts with a farmhouse type Gasselte A (800-1000 AD) and continues with a house type Gasselte A, transformed in type B and another type B (900-1300 AD) and at last one type B' (1100-1400 AD), all accompanied by sheds, granaries and wells. During the last three periods the yard was surrounded in the east, south and west by a ditch. The lack of granaries with five and six posts is remarkable in comparison with the two other farmsteads Hovinge and Derkinge. This can be due to the fact that Huisinge belonged to the nearby monastary in Assen where most of the harvest was consumed. It is, however, also possible that the missing granaries were situated on the northeastern corner of the yard which was destroyed by a new ditch.
