  Los inicios de la Unión Europea estuvieron fuertemente marcados por el tema energético. Pero, con el paso del tiempo, este tema quedó relegado a un segundo plano. Las sucesivas crisis petrolíferas obligaron a los países a buscar nuevas energías, como el gas. En la actualidad, el aumento de la dependencia energética de Europa con respecto a Rusia y las sucesivas crisis gasísticas, han forzado a la Unión a estudiar alternativas en su aprovisionamiento energético. Sin embargo, el conflicto de intereses entre los Estados miembros y la Unión han ralentizado, en algún caso bloqueado, la ejecución de sus iniciativas. El Dilema del Prisionero nos puede ayudar a explicar dicho conflicto.

  Energy was a key issue in the beginning of the construction of the European Union. However, over the years, this topic progressively lost its relevance. The oil crises forced States to look for new energies, for example gas. Due to current phenomena such as the increasing European energy dependency towards Russia and the gas crises have raised the need for the Union to look for other alternatives when it comes to the energy supply. Nevertheless, the clash between the interests of the Member States and those of the Union have reduced the pace or even blocked the implementation of these initiatives. The Prisoner's Dilemma can help us to explain this clash.
