Cuba y la producción de artículos sobre ensayos clínicos en la base de datos PubMed en el período 1999-2008

    The production of clinical trial reports is a reliable marker of the researches development in the human health sector. With the aim to quantify and to characterize the production of clinical trial reports of Cuba in the PubMed database, during the decade 1999-2008, we determine the number and distribution of that according to the institutions, journals and substances. The total number of reports processed by PubMed ascended to 147. The most productive institution was the Centro de Investigaciones Médico Quirúrgicas, from Havana, whereas the most prolific journal was the International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology Research, from Switzerland. Polycosanols were the most studied substance. The production of clinical trial reports in PubMed don't reflects neither qualitative nor quantitative activities developed in Cuba on this sector of the health investigations.

    La producción de informes de ensayos clínicos es un indicador confiable del desarrollo de la investigación en el sector de la salud. Con el objetivo de cuantificar y caracterizar la producción de informes de ensayos clínicos de Cuba en la base de datos PubMed durante el decenio 1999-2008, se determinó su número, así como su distribución, según instituciones, revistas y sustancias. El total de informes procesados por PubMed ascendió a 147. La institución más productiva resultó ser el Centro de Investigaciones Médico-Quirúrgicas, de La Habana; la revista más prolífica, la International Journal of Clinical Pharmacology Research, de Suiza, y las sustancias más estudiadas, los policosanoles. La producción de informes de ensayos clínicos identificada en PubMed no refleja cuantitativa ni cualitativamente la actividad que desarrolla Cuba en este sector de la investigación en salud.
