En este artículo se discute la cuestión de la identidad brasileña en las comunidades de inmigrantes asentadas en San Francisco (Estados Unidos). Para el análisis se realizaron dos meses de trabajo de campo, donde se participó en eventos de la comunidad, se llevaron a cabo entrevistas y se recopiló material de diversos medios de comunicación. La preocupación principal del autor es la emergencia de esta identidad y sus manifestaciones en la reinvención de rituales como el carnaval brasileño, la comida y bebidas tradicionales, mezcladas con las manifestaciones culturales de otras comunidades, y el baile, junto con la nueva construcción de identidad femenina centrada alrededor de la sexualidad y exposición del cuerpo femenino. Se utiliza el concepto de �intertextualidad cultural� para entender los procesos de reafirmación de la identidad y los trabajos de Benedict Anderson sobre �comunidades imaginadas� para analizar los elementos congregadotes de la comunidad inmigrante.

This article discusses the question of Brazilian identity in the city of San Francisco (USA). The analysis is based on two months of field-work, which included participation in community events, interviews and the gathering of materials from several media. The principal preoccupation of the author is the emergence of a new identity, and its manifestatios in the reinvention of ritual such as the Brazilian carnival, traditional foods and drinks, and dance, mixed with the other cultural manifestations from other communities, together with the new construction of feminine identity, and the exposure of the female body.The concept of �cultural� intertextualidade� is used to understand the process of reaffirmation of identity, and the works of Benedict Anderson, among others, about �imagined communities� to analyze the elements that congregate the immigrant community.
