    The Milieu is to France what wine is to Burgundy: a tradition solidly planted in the scenery with which the detective division of the French police has had to deal since its foundation one hundred years ago. Constantly changing, it has recently witnessed the emergence of young criminals coming from the Maghreb and African immigration. However, the elders have not yet said their last word and Corsica, whence one out of two gangsters originates, remains a fertile breeding ground. The sources of financing have also changed a lot: drugs have replaced hustling and kidnapping, which now belong to history.

    En perpétuelle recomposition, il voit aujourd’hui émerger de jeunes bandits issus de l’immigration maghrébine et africaine, mais les anciens n’ont pas dit leur dernier mot, et la Corse, berceau d’un grand voyou sur deux, reste un terreau fertile. Les sources de financement se sont, elles aussi, profondément renouvelées : la drogue a envahi le champ de bataille au détriment du proxénétisme et des enlèvements, relégués au rayon de l’histoire.
