Al comienzo del siglo XXI, es un buen momento para analizar la situación en la que se encuentran la Contabilidad de Costes y de Gestión, y al mismo tiempo determinar los nuevos desarrollos producidos desde un punto de vista investigador a nivel nacional en torno a ello.
Con este fin, hemos intentado plasmar la evolución de la Contabilidad de Gestión, dilucidando cuál ha sido el camino seguido por los estudiosos y tratadistas en la materia a lo largo del período 1995-2004.
Era necesario, además del estudio anterior, la comparativa con los estudios llevados a cabo en este mismo sentido por otros autores respecto a períodos anteriores. Así, hemos obtenido una visión mucho más directa, continua y amplia, sobre la trayectoria seguida por esta disciplina desde los años 80, hasta el momento actual.

At the beginning of the XXIst century, it is considered to be an appropriate moment in order to analyse the situation of the Cost and Management Accounting nowadays, and at the same time determining the new developments produced in this area, taking into consideration from an investigating sight on a nationally level.
For that purpose, we have attempted materializing the evolution of Management Accounting, elucidating which has been the road followed by scholars and essayists in the matter to long of the period 1995-2004.
In order to achieve that purpose, the comparison with studies accomplished in this same sense by another authors in relation to previous periods was necessary, in addition to the previous study. Thus, we have obtained a much more direct, continuous and wide vision on the trajectory followed by this discipline from the latest 1980�s, to the present-day moment.
