This article is based on the texts about the concept of "nation" within the project "Iberconceptos". It presents a comparative study of the concept, including nine countries of the Iberian Atlantic world between 1750 and 1850, developing a synthesis of the evolution of the meanings and uses of the concept during that period. Our approach differs from those studies which use the concept of nation as an analytical category. Instead, seek to understand the concept of nation held by historical actors themselves and how such concepts were related to the social and political transformations observed in that century. We track the political and ethnic understanding of the term, as well as the appropriation and remodeling of those traditions in the wake of the independency movements and the emerging of the nation-states for purposes of identity.
