Resumen de Another potential shortcoming of Saaty's AHP

Joaquín Pérez Navarro, José Luis Jimeno Pastor, Ethel-Virginia Mokotoff Miguel

  • Much attention has attracted the possibility of occurrence of the Rank Reversal phenomenon in Saaty's AHP. Less attention has received another important way of perturbing the aggregated rank of alternatives: the addition of indifferent criteria (for which all alternatives perform equally). In AHP adding indifferent criteria on the basic aggregation context (three hierarchical levels) can not cause rank reversal, but narrows the scale range of the aggregated rank, thus decreasing the robustness of choice based on this rank. Furthermore, in more complex aggregation contexts, (when, as is frequently the case, there are more than three levels), rank reversal may happen.
