Resumen de Expósitos en la Valencia de la primera mitad del siglo XVI

La base fundamental de este trabajo son los libros registros de expósitos que se conservan en la ciudad de Valencia desde el siglo XVI hasta la actualidad. La estructura del trabajo es fruto, por tanto, de la información, abundantísima, recogida en ellos, que se estruc- tura en dos bloques: datos del niño (fecha y hora de ingreso, lugar de abandono, circunstan- cias del mismo, albarán o cédula, sexo, edad, vestuario y estado físico) y de su nodriza (nom- bre, profesión suya o en su defecto del marido, lugar de residencia, fecha de inicio de la lactancia, mes franco, tipo de contrato y duración de la lactancia). Junto al desarrollo de estos datos y su posible interconexión, edad del niño y lugar de abandono, mortalidad por edades, duración de la lactancia y lugar de residencia de las nodrizas, ropas y albaranes, etc., se ha tratado de relacionar la situación valenciana con la del resto de inclusas de su tiempo en Es- paña y en Europa y con lo analizado por Lliberada Arnau en el mismo Hospital General de Valencia en el siglo XIX. De todo ello se desprenden interesantes conclusiones sobre la evolu- ción del abandono en la larga distancia, y las notables diferencias encontradas entre un mo- mento y otro.

The main support for this work are the foundling books that are preserved from the XVI century until the present day in the city of Valencia. The scheme of the work is therefore based in the huge amount of information included in those books. This information is struc- tured in two main packages: data of the babies (income date & hour, abandonment place, abandonment circumstances, delivery note, sex, age, dress details and health state) and data of the nurses (name, nurse’s job or husband ́s job, place of residence, beginning date of breast feeding, contract type and duration of breast feeding). Along with the development of this da- ta and its possible interaction: age of the baby and abandonment place, mortality as a func- tion of the age, duration of the breast feeding as a function of the nurse’s place of residence, dresses and delivery notes; it has been tried to relate the local situation (Valencia) to the rest of known foundling houses of the time in Spain and also in Europe. A similar study has been carried out taking into account the analysis of Lliberada Arnau in the General Hospital of Valencia in the XIX century. All this analyses yield interesting conclusions about the evolution of the abandonment in the long time scenario, and also in the noticeable differences found depending of the time lapse considered.
