  El que entenem aquí per fonètica forense comprèn dos objectius jurídics i judicials separats per unes perspectives metodològiques molt, encara que no totalment, diferents. Es tracta del que anomeno d`una manera genèrica la comparació de marques i la identificació de veu. El primer treballa per establir si dues o més expressions utilitzades per distingir uns mateixos productes o serveis poden induir els usuaris a confondre-les ja sigui perquè sonen massa igual o perquè fan creure que hi ha un nexe comercial entre elles. Aquí la cerca fonètica té un component fonamentalment lingüístic. El segon, en canvi, s`orienta cap a determinar si dos o més enregistraments de veu pertanyen o no a una mateixa persona. Tot i que no s`hi descarta cap escorcoll lingüístic, ara la cerca gira sobretot a l`entorn de les característiques acústiques de les veus analitzades i dels seus índexs de probabilitat d`individualització.

  As it is understood here forensic phonetics includes two juridical and judicial goals with some very, but not absolutely, different methodological perspectives. They are what I would generically call trademarks comparison and voice identification. The first attempts to establish whether two or more expressions used to distinguish the same products or services can lead users to confuse them due to their excessive phonetic resemblance or make one sense that there is some commercial link between them. Here the phonetic research has a basically linguistic character. The second one instead is oriented towards determining whether two or more voice records belong or not to the same and unique person.

  Although a linguistic treatment is not discarded, the most genuine research now is based on the acoustical characteristics of the analyzed voices and their statistical probability of uniqueness.
