América monstruosa y la novela monstruosa de José Donoso

    Este trabajo tiene como objetivo establecer algunos antecedentes de los rasgos grotescos de la obra de José Donoso, rescatando imágenes visuales que, en su mayoría, forman parte de libros de viajes en el contexto de la conquista y colonia europea en América. Se establece lo monstruoso como rasgo compartido tanto por una América construida por tales imágenes como por la obra narrativa de José Donoso, quien, al alternar significados dados por la tradición teratológica, desenmascara relaciones de poder. La construcción del otro bestial, el mito, el hermafroditismo sexual y discursivo, el acéfalo junto con la pérdida de la omnisciencia y racionalidad, el antropófago y lo femenino como fuerza destructora, son algunos temas que comparten las imágenes visuales y la narrativa donosiana, determinando sus formas y modos de representación.

    The purpose of the following work is to present some grotesque characteristics in José Donoso�s work, highlighting visual images that, in their majority, form part of the voyaging books during the conquest and colonization of America. The work establishes a shared monstrosity in both an America built through these images as well as in José Donoso�s narrative, that while altering the meaning given by the teratologic tradition, unmasks power relationships. The construction of a beastly other, the myth, the sexual and discursive hermaphroditism, the headless, together with the omniscient and rational loss, the anthropophagous and the feminism as destructive forces, are some of the themes that these images share with donosian narrative, defining its forms and representation methods.
