  • Resumen
    • Aim: To identify attitudes towards oral health among 12 year-old schoolchildren in the Burela Health Area (northern Lugo Province, Spain). Method: Anonymous, voluntary, self-administered questionnaire. Results: Two hundred sixty-five children (75.07% of the total) agreed to enter the study. Ninety-seven percent of the students brush their teeth regularly, and most of them (49.1%) three times a day. Only 21.5% use dental floss, 20.8% of the children have learnt the brushing technique they use on their own, 11.8% of the sample have never visited a dental clinic and 81.4% of the students are not afraid of visiting dental practitioners. Conclusions: The oral health habits of 12 year-olds in our health area are quite satisfactory, although more efforts aimed at teaching brushing techniques and at promoting the use of dental floss are needed.
