    El presente artículo enmarca la Infraestructura de Datos Espaciales como parte del proceso evolutivo de los Sistemas de Información Geográfica, resaltando su importancia en la obtención de la información geográfica yrealiza un análisis de la contextualización de las IDE´s en el ámbito académico de Estados Unidos y Latinoamérica,basado en el informe presentado por la Consorcio Universitario de Ciencia de la Información Geográfica oe UCGISen el año 2006yen búsquedas en la Webde ofertas académicas para la enseñanza de las ciencias ylas tecnologías de la información geográfica -C+T IG en Latinoamérica. Con base en los análisis realizados se concluye acerca de la poca importancia que se le esta dando a las IDE´s en la enseñanza universitaria en los niveles de pregrado y postgrado en disciplinas que tienen relación con las C+TIG.

    The present article frames the infrastructure of spatial data as part of the evolutionary process of the Geographical Information Systems, highlighting its importance in the obtaining of the geographical information and carries out an analysis of the contextualization of the IDE´s in the academic area of United States and Latin America, based on the report presented by University Consortium for Geographic Information Science UCGIS in the year 2006 and in searches in the Web of academic offers for the teaching of the science and the technologies of the geographical information -C+TIG in Latin America. Withbase on the carried out analyses it is concluded the little importance that is beinggiven to the IDE´s in the universityteachingin the levels of degree and post degree in disciplines have relation with the C+T IG.
