  • Resumen
    • Omar Khayyam (Nishabur, Khorasan 1048-1131), Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer, probably wrote 178 rubaiyat. Some Western literary sayings show great similarities to the thoughts of this poet: "nunc est bibendum" (now we must drink), "pulvis es et in pulverem reverteris" (you are dust, and "unto dust" you shall return), "carpe diem" (seize the day), "memento mori" (remember that you are mortal), "tempus fugit" (time flies), "ubi sunt?" (where are they?) and others. But if the similarities are so great, what is the distinctiveness of Khayyam's poetry?
