El artículo analiza la traducción del poema «I am» de John Clare por L. M. Panero. El autor español moderniza la prosodia versual del siglo XIX poniendo en entredicho la dicción poética tradicional.
Las expansiones temáticas modifican el pathos y el ethos del original y amplían la carga intertextual del poema. La lectura cultural del «yo» en traducción implica una reflexión sobre la historia literaria y el conflicto histórico de la poesía.

The article analyzes the translation by L. M. Panero of John Clare�s poem «I am». The Spanish writer updates the 19th century verse prosody and questions the traditional poetic diction. Thematic expansions modify the original text�s pathos and ethos, and amplify the intertextual content of the poem. The cultural reading of the «I» in translation implies a reflexion on literary history and the historic conflict of poetry.
