The vegetation in East Alava shows very clearly the transitional character of the middle zone of the Basque Country. Subatlantic and submediterranean vegetation are distributed in a contact model full of interpenetrations and recurrences closely linked to the layout of the zonal hills which run through the whole territory. Various types of beech, oak, Pyrenean oak, Portuguese oak, and holm oak wood, with their stages of substitution, are described. -from English summary
