In spite of the generalized silence in studies about the Near East on the problem of the existence of traces of shamanism between cultures of the zone, or even of the reiterated negation of the presence of shamanic residual characteristics in mesopotamian literature, and perhaps in iconography too; we must recognize, as already did van Dijk in 1969, that doubtless sings of syncretism with shamanic traditions (that according to the author, should go back to prehistoric period) remain in mesopotamian mythology
