Resumen de Discursos racistas: institucionalización del racismo a través de las prácticas lingüísticas

El artículo destaca el papel de los discursos racistas en la definición y justificación de las diferentes formas de segregación social contra la población considerada �no blanca� en el Ecuador. A través de las estructuras narrativas de entrevistas realizadas con representantes de las élites ecuatorianas, se observa que las ideas peyorativas sobre las mayorías étnicas con pigmentación de piel más oscura, especialmente indígena y negra, persisten. Hay en los discursos una disposición a negociar una homogenizadora identidad mestiza, siendo una postura que no solo tiende a negar las diferencias culturales y de valores de los diferentes grupos étnicos que aún subsisten en Ecuador, sino que ratifica también la supuesta superioridad de los auto calificados blancos.

This paper points out the role of racist discourses in the definition and justification of different forms of segregation practices against the population considered as non-white in Ecuador. From the narrative structures of interviews realized with elites representatives, it appears that pejorative ideas about the ethnic majorities with darker skin, mainly Indians and blacks, still exist. There exists in the discourses the disposition to negotiate toward a homogenized mestizo identity, but this position, not only has the bias of denying the various ethnic cultural values of the different indigenous groups still living in Ecuador, but also gives prominence to the image of superiority from the self-qualified whites.
