This article focuses on two central issues, both related to the study of Development from an anthropological perspective. In the first place, we will analyse the historic construction of the concept of development and the role it plays in the development practice, the analysis, design, implementation and evaluation of social policies. In the second place, we will examine the two theoretical positions that deal with the relationship between anthropology and development: Development Anthropology and Anthropology of Development, and take a look at the different type of anthropologists' intervention that each of them suggest. At last, we put forward some questions about the role of anthropologists and their participation in the development field.
