  • French immigration history to Brazil in XIX century have a paradoxical character: an intensive um involvement of both parts finish in a totally failure. It's possible detect this involvement in the vast bibliography dedicated to Brazil Empire published on XIX century, comprising travelers descriptions, plenty of exotics adventures to scientific treatise the flora and fauna, sickness, etc. A substantial part of the publications have the objective to make Brazil attractive to the immigrants. A French immigrant have the ideal characteristics that the Empire look as necessary to improve Brazilian ethnic and cultural characteristics. More provable reasons on the failure of French immigration - bad choices and the persistence of slavery - were the more common explanation that we can apply to hole immigration and may us criticize the immigration political of the Empire. We present more specific causes to the failure of French immigration.
