During the 15th century the image of Julius Caesar configurates itself in several texts as the model of erudite statesmen, who cultivate both military and literary arts. By analyzing the passages in Livro da Montaria by D. João I that refer Julius Caesar, we seek to identify the written sources behind those allusions and argue that the use this author makes of this historical figure is alien to the model mentioned before.
