Una aproximación al teatro de Juan López de Úbeda (textos y contexto)

    Este trabajo examina la obra teatral de Juan López de Úbeda, conocido sobre todo como recopilador de poesía religiosa española del tercer cuarto del siglo XVI. En él se abordan los principales problemas de delimitación del corpus y de autoría de las piezas dramáticas comúnmente atribuidas a este autor, y se traza el contexto en el que pudo tener lugar su representación: el Seminario de los Niños de la Doctrina de Alcalá de Henares. Asimismo, se realiza un primer análisis de los rasgos generales de su teatro, el cual no había merecido hasta la fecha la atención de la crítica, y se edita la única obra en cuya escritura es segura la participación de López de Úbeda, la Comedia de San Alejo.

    This paper examines the plays of Juan López de Úbeda, known primarily as a compiler of Spanish religious poetry from the third quarter of the Sixteenth Century. In this study the main problems concerning the limits of the corpus and the authorship of the plays attributed to this author are examined, and with them the context in which they might have been performed: the Seminary of Children of Doctrine of Alcalá de Henares. The main features of López de Úbeda’s theater, which has not received critical attention until now, are subject to a preliminary analysis, and an edition of the Comedia de San Alejo, the only play in whose composition it is certain that López de Úbeda participated, is offered.
