El concepto actual de magia difiere considerablemente de aquello que en el antiguo Egipto entendieron como tal. Actualmente, se asocia la magia bien con el espectáculo o bien con el ámbito esotérico. Aunque algunos de los hábitos egipcios pueden ponerse en relación con estas prácticas actuales, la magia en Egipto fue un concepto de cariz religioso y así hay que definirla para comprender no sólo su incidencia en la iconografía, sino también su trascendencia a nivel social y cultural.

The present concept of magic differs considerably from what was understood in the Ancient Egypt. Nowadays magic is associated either with the show or the esoteric world. Although some of these Egyptian habits can be related to these present practices, the magic in Egypt was a concept of a religious nature that must be defined in that way in order to understand not only its effect on the iconography, but also its importance at a social and cultural level.
