En los últimos años, la percepción social de la ciencia se ha convertido en área de interés con repercusión en los ámbitos académico y político. Ahora se admite que no existe una correlación entre conocimiento y percepción, hay un cambio en la hipótesis explicativa, la confianza se convierte en la sustituta funcional del conocimiento, y esto motiva nuevas iniciativas institucionales sobre ciencia y sociedad. El objetivo de este artículo es identificar los cambios que recientemente se han dado en los estudios sobre percepción pública de la ciencia, situar los nuevos planes europeos de ciencia y sociedad en su contexto y avanzar una interpretación crítica.

In recent years, the public understanding of the science has turned into theoretical and political area of interest. Now it is accepted that there is no correlation between knowledge and perception, there is a change in the explanatory hypothesis, and this is what motivates new institutional initiatives about science and society. The aim of this paper is to identify the changes that have occurred recently in studies on public understanding of science, to place the new European plans of science and society and to advance a critical interpretation.
