    En este artículo se analizan las prácticas financiero-mercantiles y estrategias de inversión de un grupo de mayoristas de Zacatecas en la segunda mitad del siglo XVII, cuyo éxito en el comercio les permitió amasar fortunas nada desdeñables e influir y participar en el poder local. El objetivo principal es mostrar que más que agentes pasivos de los comerciantes mexicanos, los mayoristas zacatecanos aprovecharon las oportunidades que les ofreció esta relación para conseguir un lugar prominente en el centro minero, como lo evidencian sus patrimonios y participación en el cabildo.

    This work analyzes the financial mercantile practices and investment strategies of a group of wholesale merchants in Zacatecas which, due to their success in trade, amassed large fortunes through which they participated and exercised influence in the local seats of power. The main purpose of the article is to show that more than passive agents of Mexico City merchants, their counterparts in Zacatecas used the opportunities this relationship offered and achieved a prominent place in the mining center, as borne out by their increasing wealth and active participation in the town council.
