    En el artículo se definen los conceptos básicos sobre Formación Inicial Docente y Práctica Pedagógica y se analizan las etapas del desarrollo de la profesión docente.

    Además, se analiza en general la situación educacional chilena: la Reforma Educacional y fundamentalmente el Proyecto de Fortalecimiento de la Formación Inicial Docente, en el cual se recalca el valor de la Práctica y la conexión del estudiante con la realidad de las aulas.

    Finalmente, se discuten los principales desafíos que emergen para la Formación Inicial Docente.

    In this paper, the main concepts concerning Teacher Initial Education and Pedagogical Practicum are defi ned, and the developmental stages of the Teaching profession are analysed.

    In addition, the Chilean educational reality is analysed: Educational Reform and basically the Project of Teacher Initial Education, in which the value of Practicum is stressed as well as the value of the experience of students with the reality from classrooms.

    Finally, the main challenges of Teacher Initial Education are discussed.
