An increased emphasis on institutional status provides opportunities to develop and implement location-based educational initiatives. Location-Based Learning (LBL) is one of these initiatives, providing a student-centred authentic experiential learning environment. The article presents considerations for the development and implementation of LBL, presented in three categories: student, destination choice and relationship. Key considerations are, first, to create accurate and achievable expectations of student workload and responsibility. Second, select an emerging destination to partner with. Third start and continue providing benefits for the destination. Finally, consider the personal investment against the return before starting.
