Ostracoda biostratigraphy of the Vinjhanian Stage (Early Miocene), Kachchh, Gujarat State, India

    Se describen setenta y seis especies de ostrácodos en el holo e hipoestratotipo del piso Vinjhanianse, en Kachchh, en las secciones expuestas en los yacimientos de los ríos Kankawati y Khari Nadi, respectivamente. Utilizando los datos de la Última Aparición (U.A.) y en la Primera Aparición (P.A.) de diferentes especies de ostrácodos, se han descrito nueve eventos en el Vinjhanianse. Los eventos registrados en orden ascendente son: 1, P.A. de Stigmatocythere (S.) latebrosa; 2, U.A. de Pokornyella pindaraensis; 3, P.A. de Chrysocythere jaini; 4.,P.A. de Neosinocythere lakhpatensis; 5, P.A. de Neomonoceratina acuta /Occultocythereis? keralaensis; 6, U.A. de S.(S.) latebrosa/P.A. de S.(S.) multicostata; 7, U.A. de Neomonoceratina acuta/U.A. de Occultocythereis? keralaensis; 8, U.A. de Stigmatocythere (S.) chaasraensis; 9, U.A. de Stigmatocythere (S.) multicostata. Esos eventos pueden ser utilizados para la correlación en y entre las cuencas estudiadas. Los ostrácodos registrados muestran una clara semejanza, a nivel específico y genérico, con aquellos descritos en las cuencas de Saurashtra, Bombay High y Kerala. Los miogypsinidos y los ostrácodos asociados sugieren una edad Burdigaliense inferior y medio (parte superior del Mioceno inferior) para el piso Vinjhanianse.

    Seventy-six species of Ostracoda taxa are recorded from the holo and hypostratotype sections of the Vinjhanian Stage, Kachchh, exposed along the Kankawati and Khari Nadi River sections, respectively. On the basis of Last Occurrence (LO) and First Occurrence (FO) datum, 9 Ostracoda events are recognised within the Vinjhanian Stage. The events recorded in ascending order are: 1. FO Stigmatocythere (S.) latebrosa, 2. LO Pokornyella pindaraensis, 3. FO Chrysocythere jaini, 4. FO Neosinocythere lakhpatensis, 5. FO Neomonoceratina acuta /Occultocythereis? keralaensis, 6. LO S.(S.) latebrosa/FO S.(S.) multicostata, 7. LO Neomonoceratina acuta/LO Occultocythereis? keralaensis, 8. LO Stigmatocythere (S.) chaasraensis, 9. LO Stigmatocythere (S.) multicostata. These events can be useful for inter and intra basinal correlation. The ostracods recorded herein have close affinity with those of the Saurashtra, Bombay High and Kerala basins at both generic and specific levels. The miogypsinids and associated ostracods suggest an Early to Middle Burdigalian (upper part of the Early Miocene) age for the Vinjhanian Stage.
