Cuando Alexander Von Humbolt decía que miraban los ingleses con envidia y celo que la mayor parte de los inmensos tesoros de aquellos dominios -Americanos de España- pasaran a manos de los enemigos de Inglaterra se manifestaba a la luz de los hechos: durante las centurias precedentes a la Invasión Inglesa al Plata, los británicos venían planenando un ataque en varios frentes a la América hispana. Cuando esto se concretó con la invasión en 1806, los habitantes de ambas márgenes del Plata reaccionaron con lealtad y demostraciones de fidelidad a la Madre Patria. Ante tales expresiones de mancomunada solidaridad y extremo sacrificio para liberarse del yugo inglés, nadie puede suponer que los habitantes de estas tierras deseaban pasar a manos del dominio de Jorge III. Oscar Abadie-Aicardi nos invita a la reflexion: ¿Es acaso real la opinión de quienes afirman que a escasos tres años de estos heroicos episodios los habitantes de estas tierras se plantearan la Independencia?

When Alexander Von Humbolt said that, the English were envious and jealous of the immense possessions and treasures that the Spaniards held in America, he did so looking at many centuries of British planning of an attack on Hispanic America. This became reality in 1806, and the habitants of River Plate reacted with loyalty and fidelity to the Spanish Crown. At the sight of these expressions of unity and sacrifice in order to be unchained of the English domination, no-one can suppose that they wanted to be subjected to the reign of George III. Even more, Oscar Abadie-Aicardi, invites us to question ourselves: Did the same people who fought for the Spanish Crown against the British invaders wanted to be independent only three years after this heroic episodes?
