The aim of this paper is to show in what sense the "theo-dramatic" action put forth by Hans Urs von Balthasar offers present-day man meaningful and historically effective message. From the threefold aspects of role, mission and life: 1) the pathos of the finite condition is presented as an essential part of dramatic action and of human life; 2) two experiences are analysed wich mark the tragic pathos of the current historical scence, that is, the incapacity to accept death as a limitation and to recognise the other as a boon; 3) a triple historicexistencial, teleological and dialogic dimiension is postulated as a contribution of theo-drama to the tragedy of today's "pathos". Finally, the conclusion proposes "theo-dramatic pathos" as a sign of our times
