In the context of the booming development of content for mobile platforms, the proposals of the news media appear to be still chained to “primitive” formats of the new media (such as SMS or MMS news bulletins) or else mere ‘adaptations’ of on-line formats. The centralizing look of the operators, along with the tendency on the part of the media to consider the mobile as a 'miniaturized' version of existing formats, contrasts with the demand and the increased perception of the usefulness of having ubiquitous information on the part of the audience. Paradoxi-cally, it is the audience and the content providers who show a greater awareness of the possibilities of hyper-local information that is adapted to the context of use. In this text, we propose a panoramic view of the evolution and the immediate horizons of the impact of mobile phone use in news activity, from its formats of distribution and the possibilities of integration in the convergent creation of the news, to the transferal into the mobile environment of the social networks in the so-called ‘mobile 2.0’.
