    En 1716 la dinastía de los Borbones impuso a Cataluña el Decreto de Nueva Planta y abolió sus constituciones y privilegios. El Decreto estableció en el Principado la nueva magistratura castellana de los corregidores (gobernadores militares) y los alcaldes mayores. Durante el siglo XVIII, Cataluña tuvo veinte alcaldes mayores para las causas civiles y criminales, muchos de los cuales eran doctores en Derecho o bachilleres, pero no todos ellos fueron partidarios de Felipe V durante la Guerra de Sucesión española (1700-1714).

    In 1716 the Bourbonic dinasty imposed to Catalonia the Decree of the «Nueva Planta» and abolished their constitutions and privileges. The Decree established in the Principality the new magistracy of the «corregidores» (militarys governors) and the «alcaldes mayores». During the eighteenth century Catalonia had twenty «alcaldes mayores» for the civils and the criminals lawsuits, many of these were doctors in law or bachelors but all of they didn't have been followers of Philip V during the Spanish War of Sucession (1700-1714).
