Caudillo, a montage film by Basilio Martín Patino, is part of a trilogy dedicated to Francoist Spain along with Canciones para después de una guerra (1971) and Queridísimos verdugos (1973).
Caudillo demystifies the figure of Franco by manipulating the same materials that were used in the construction of his persona. This insightful turnaround creates another way to “read” the figure of the dictator that for so many years was imposed upon Spanish culture.
