  • The article takes the perspective of Norberto Bobbio to examine a weak point in Francoist ideology, namely, the comic book iconography that can be inferred from a film such as Raza (Race)–the “official” film of the Franco regime. Raza was an interesting propaganda film because it brilliantly consolidated the latest film techniques of the time, the values surrounding the persona of general Franco, and the coalition of different interest groups that supported his rise to power. Raza is truly paradigmatic of Franco regime iconography, and through this film we can observe the ultraconservative mentality and aesthetics that the dictatorship attempted to transmit to the Spanish people, with all the media at its disposal for doing so.
