During the early years of the regime, Franco’s image commanded a privileged propagandistic status. The concept of the Caudillo, as happened with the Führer and the Duce, was meticulously elaborated. However, carrying that image over into audiovisual media brought with it varying results. In both El Noticiario Español (1938-1941) and in documentaries produced at the same time by the Departamento Nacional de Cinematografía, Franco was portrayed as the victor in war, the guide to postwar reconstruction, and charismatic leader interpreting the will of his people. This can also be observed in the first NO-DO (the official State news-documentaries from 1943-1975).
