A lo largo de su historia, las aportaciones del IEC han sido múltiples. Ha promovido la investigación, ha vertebrado la comunidad científica y ha contribuido a la promoción de la expresión científica en catalán. En este artículo el autor analiza los orígenes, estructura y retos a los que se enfrenta hoy en día el IEC, una institución que significa la gran academia catalana y que a través de sus filiales mide el pulso de la actividad científica en Cataluña.

The IEC has made many contributions throughout its history. It has promoted research, supported the scientific community and contributed to promoting the expression of science in Catalan. In this article, the author analyzes the origins, structure and current challenges of the IEC, an institution that signifies a great Catalan Academy and which, through its subsidiaries, takes the pulse of scientific activity in Catalonia.
