Violence is presently such a mediated issue that we must become suspicious. Its impact reveals an in depth transformation of school which is perceived by its agents only in its «crisis» dimension. The article tries to show that this violence is the result of several processes : it should not be considered only as a flow of social violence but as a response to pressure exerted by the school system itself, which is rooted in the paradox of a school that wants to be democratic and meritocratic all together.
