The paleogeographical attribution of the tectonics units of Sierra de Almagro and its own structure have been traditionally involved in a notorious controversy. Here was first defined the Almágride Complex and later on the Ballabona-Cucharón Complex, the last attributed to a Subbetic (Betic External Zone) subducted, metamorphosed and now outcropping in a tectonic window. Nevertheless, in this study, the previously supposed units of Ballabona, Almagro and Cucharón are unified in a single one, the Tres Pacos unit, because they correspond to different parts of a common stratigraphic series. Locally there are detachments between the different formations of the stratigraphic series, the most important one, situated between the phyllites and quartzites of “Ballabona” and the carbonates of “Almagro”, disappear laterally. In the Sierra de Almagro E-W folds exist, facing to the S in its northern part and to the N in its southern part. The existence of the Almagro Complex (and of the Ballabona-Cucharón Complex) is discarded and, hence, none of the units of the Sierra de Almagro can belong to the Subbetic. The Tres Pacos unit forms part of the Alpujarride complex, clearly superposed to the Nevado-Filábride Complex and overlain by the Variegato unit (Alpujarride).
