    Al inicio del Trienio Liberal la Milicia Nacional no tuvo un gran poder de convocatoria y no fue hasta el mes de noviembre del 1820 cuando se pudieron formar dos batallones. Su tarea era crucial ya que tenía que asegurar la tranquilidad pública, defender el sistema constitucional y combatir a las partidas absolutistas. Su principal problema fue la falta de armamento y de uniformes, además de no revestir un gran entusiasmo entre los leridanos por su carácter obligatorio. Aunque en el año 1821 con la creación de la Milicia Voluntaria y la llegada de Rafael de Riego a la ciudad este cuerpo armado creció en protagonismo, en importancia y en popularidad en Lleida.

    At the beginning of the Liberal Triennium, the National Militia did not have a great drawing power and it was not until November 1820 when two battalions could be formed. Their task was crucial; they had to assure the public peacefulness, to defend the constitutional system and to fight against the absolutism groups. Their main problem was the lack of armament and uniforms, besides, they did not arouse a great enthusiasm between the Lleida�s population due to its compulsory character. Even though, in the year 1821, with the creation of the Voluntary Militia and Rafael de Riego�s arrival to the city, this military group grew in prominence, in importance and in popularity in Lleida.
