Proust recreates in Françoise' s speech the myth of the genius of the French language, a high point of 19th century apprehensions of language: clarity, purity, a combination of Medieval sources and Classical achievement, rural origins, and final corruption. Thus can one speak of "la langue Françoise" as both Françoise's and "la langue françoise" of myth.
