Resumen de ¿Coplas canarias en lengua inglesa?: Tenerife en la obra poética de Radclyffe Hall.

  Radclyffe Hall, conocida sobre todo por ser la autora del clásico de narrativa lésbica The Well of Loneliness (1928), pasó unas vacaciones en Tenerife en 1909 y 1910. Los felices recuerdos de aquellos días le inspiraron no sólo el telón de fondo de la parte central de la novela, sino una secuencia de coplas en lengua inglesa en la que intentó imitar la lírica popular canaria. En este artículo se ofrece una traducción de la secuencia de poemas «Songs of the Canary Islands» de Radclyffe Hall, así como de las coplas inéditas de esta secuencia que quedaron excluidas en la edición de 1948. En la parte final se añaden también unos poemas sobre Tenerife de la colección Poems ofthe Past & Present (1910)

  Radclyffe Hall, the author ofthe classic lesbian novel The Well ofLoneliness (1928), spent holidays in Tenerife in 1909 and in 1910. The memories of those happy days inspired not only the background landscape for the central episode ofthe novel, but also a song sequence in imitation ofthe Canarian folk lyrics.

  In this article a Spanish translation of «Songs of the Canary Islands» is offered, as well as the unpublished songs excluded from the 1948 edition. A number of poems about Tenerife from the collection Poems of the Past & Present (191 O) are also added in the last section
