    Durante el s. XIX, la emigración española a América incrementó la relación entre España y el Nuevo Mundo, circunstancia de la que no fue ajena Cataluña en vista de la considerable correspondencia entablada entre los emigrantes y sus familias. En este sentido, nuestro propósito es probar que algunos rasgos orales presentes en los epistolarios catalano-cubanos se deben no solo a la habilidad lingüística del remitente, sino también al hecho de que dichos rasgos modalizan el discurso.

    During the 19th century, Spanish emigration to America increased the special relationship between Spain and the New World, and Catalonia was not an exception to that circumstance as we keep the correspondence of many Catalan emigrants with their families. In that sense, our aim in this paper is to prove that many oral traits in the letters studied are due not only to the linguistic skills of the sender, but also to the fact that they are a linguistic way to express the speaker�s attitude in the discourse.
