No cabe duda de que la obra de don Juan Manuel ofrece un material muy valioso para el estudio del castellano en el s. XIV. Debido a ello, hemos elegido El Conde Lucanor para describir el sistema de tiempos verbales utilizado en dicho período. Nuestro objetivo ha sido explicar el comportamiento de los tiempos simples de indicativo, teniendo en cuenta no sólo los rasgos sintácticos, sino también los semánticos, a fin de comparar estas formas y mostrar sus principales diferencias.

There is no doubt that Juan Manuel’s work offers very worthy material for the study of fourteenth-century Castilian usage. For that reason, we have chosen El Conde Lucanor to describe the tense-system used in the mentioned period. Our aim has been to explain the behaviour of the simple tenses of the indicative, taking into account not only syntactic but also semantic features, in order to compare these forms and show their main differences.
