    • The seven-episode documentary Why We Fight stands out as a propaganda exercise that inspired the strong American participation during World War II. Produced by Frank Capra, the series took the form of a compilation film showing a flashback to the first few years of this worldwide conflict. Using the words of Henry A. Wallace, the US vice-president at the time, as a starting point for the plot, Capra and his colleagues develop their film discourse on the North American principles of freedom and equal opportunities. The authenticity of these concepts was extended to the Allied countries whilst scorning the enemy states. The rhetorical strategy of using images from existing films, in particular Leni Riefenstahl's Triumph of the Will is used to reinforce the condemnation of enemy forces and the exaltation of the Allied troops for the North American soldiers and public. From this viewpoint, Capra and his colleagues’ rhetorical strategy owed much to the public’s tacit identification between documental images and reality, or rather, between documental images and the truth. In doing this, they reinforced the message promoted by the film newsreels of the time, on a large scale
