Calderón y Sófocles expresan, a través de sus héroes, su invencible fe en la libertad del ser humano, más allá de la marca del destino y del padre. Aun desde claves religiosas muy diferentes, no solo absorben en sus personajes, simbólicos pero profundamente humanos, el espíritu de la época, sino que también proporcionan una radical lectura artística de la historia y del individuo. Y frente al hundimiento inexorable de Edipo, la redención de Segismundo, como rey y como hombre, define la verdadera dimensión emancipadora del catolicismo trágico de Calderón.

Calderon and Sophokles express, through their heroes, their unbeatable faith in the freedom of the human being, beyond the sign of the destiny and the father. Even from very different religious keys, not only they absorb in its symbolic but deeply human characters the spirit of the time, but also provide a radical artistic reading of the history and the individual. And as opposed to the inexorable collapse of Oedipus, the redemption of Segismundo, as a king and a man, defines the true liberating dimension of the tragic catholicism of Calderon.
