Desarrollo y puesta a punto de un servicio para la evaluación del comportamiento a desgaste de prótesis de disco intervertebral

    EL DESGASTE PROTÉSICO ES UN PROBLEMA QUE AFECTA A LA MAYORÍ A DE LOS I MPLANTES UTILIZADOS PARA EL reemplazo articular. Con el fin de estudiar este fenómeno en las prótesis de disco intervertebral, el Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) ha llevado a cabo el proyecto PRODISC, desarrollando y poniendo a punto un servicio integral de evaluación del desgaste para este tipo de implantes. Dicho servicio permitirá profundizar en el conocimiento de los parámetros que influyen sobre el comportamiento tribológico de las prótesis discales, ayudando las empresas a incorporar mejoras de diseño sobre los nuevos implantes y a tener un mejor conocimiento de los materiales empleados en su fabricación. Con este nuevo servicio el IBV está en disposición de evaluar biomecánicamente cualquier característica funcional de las prótesis de disco.

    Prosthesis´ wear is a problem which affects the majority of articular implants. With the objective of studying this phenomenon in intervertebral disc prostheses, the Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia (IBV) carried out the PRODISC project, developing and setting up an integral service for evaluating wear in this kind of implants. This service will allow to study in depth the parameters that have influence on the tribologic behavior of prostheses. The results will help companies in introducing improvements in the design of new implants, taking advantage of a better knowledge of the materials used to manufacture them. Thanks to this service, the IBV will be able to evaluate every functional characteristic of disc rostheses.
