Resumen de Nation branding: coverage and perceptions of Qatar in major world newspapers

  • A content analysis of mentions of Qatar published in more than 70 major newspapers in 18 nations in 2006-2007 was conducted. Comparisons were made between newspapers located in or associated with the West (North America, Europe, Australia/New Zealand and Israel) and the East (Asia, the Middle East and Africa). Tone toward Qatar was more positive in the East than the West. Qatar more frequently landed on section front pages and in prominent story positions in the West than the East. Sports and Qatar�s population/geographic facts were the most frequent topics.

    Terror/war/violence and Al Jazeera were the least common topics.
